Foreign Trade Statistics of Bangladesh are compiled from the Customs returns. The primary sources for sea-borne trade data are the "Bills of Entry" for imports and "Shipping Bills" and "B" form for exports. For customs clearance, th exporters and importers submit these bills to the customs houses at two sea portsChittagong and Chalna for every consignment imported into or intended for. export from Bangladesh by Sea, on an average about seven thousnad "Bills of Entry" twelve hundred "Shipping Bills" and two thousand "B" forms are received from the two sea ports in each month. The land borne export/import data are compiled from the monthly returns received from customs stations which deal with Border trade with neighbouring countries like India & Nepal. About one thousand land borne trade returns (Bill of Entry of customs return/statements) are received per month. Air-borne trade data are compiled from the air-borne trade returns (Bills of Entry for imports and customs statements for exports) received from the air freight unit of land customs station at Dhaka. Besides these, monthly returns of import/export of goods through postal parcels are received from the customs in foreign post office of Bangladesh. In addition to the above mentioned documents, daily lists of chlttagong and Chalna customs houses are used for compilation of import/export data and published in the monthly Advance Releases.
